Terms of Service — version 2026-10-20
DRAFT — FOR THE OWNER'S LAWYER TO REPLACE. This is a plain-language placeholder written by the product team so that the product can record acceptance from day one. It is not legal advice and it has not been reviewed by a lawyer. Replace this file (frontend/web/src/pages/TermsOfService.md) and bump the version in packages/shared/src/consent.ts, and every account will be asked to accept the new text on its next visit.
1. Who we are
TalkSlate ("the service") is operated by [COMPANY NAME], [COMPANY ADDRESS] ("we", "us"). You can reach us at [SUPPORT CONTACT].
2. What the service is
The service turns your written material into short videos: it writes scripts and shot lists, makes pictures and video clips, adds narration and captions, and assembles the result. Almost all of that is done by artificial-intelligence models. You review and approve each step before the next one is paid for.
3. Your account
- You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to create an account.
- Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what is done with your account.
- One person per account. Tell us at once if you think somebody else has used it.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. A suspended account cannot be used until we lift the suspension; nothing in it is deleted by a suspension.
- You can delete your account yourself, from the settings page. Deleting it erases your films and everything you uploaded. We keep your credit history and the record of which version of these terms and of the notice below you accepted, because we need them for our accounts and to show what you agreed to.
4. Credits
- The service charges in credits. Most paid steps show their price in credits before you start them, and the larger ones ask you to confirm that price before anything is spent. A message to the ideas assistant is charged for what it uses.
- You buy credits in packs inside the product, on the Credits page, and they are added to your account when the payment is confirmed. We may also add credits ourselves, for example after a payment link. There is no automatic monthly renewal.
- Credits are not money and cannot be exchanged for money. Credits you bought and have not used are refundable within 7 days of purchase; credits already spent are not. The refund policy explains how to ask.
- A step you approved and that ran is charged even if you do not like the result. A picture, video clip or narration line that failed on our side is not charged: if a provider made it and we then could not download it, check it or store it, we absorb that cost and you pay nothing for it. Where such a file can still be recovered, the service offers to fetch it again at no charge.
- Plan prices and credit allowances may change; we will tell you before a change affects your account.
5. AI-generated content
Everything the service makes — text, pictures, video, voices — is generated by AI. See the notice below, which you accept together with these terms.
6. Your material and the results
- What you upload stays yours. You give us permission to use it only to make your videos.
- You are responsible for having the right to use anything you upload — documents, pictures, names, likenesses.
- The videos the service makes for you are yours to use, subject to the AI-generated content notice and to the rules of the models that made them.
- Do not upload a photograph of a real person to be used as a character without that person's permission.
7. What you may not do
- Break the law, or make content that is illegal where you or your audience live.
- Make content that impersonates a real person or organisation, or that is meant to deceive.
- Make sexual content involving minors, or content that promotes violence or hatred against people.
- Try to get around the credit system, the review steps, or another person's account.
- Resell the service or use it to build a competing one.
8. Availability and changes
- The service is provided as it is, and may be unavailable at times. We do not promise that it will always work, or that a video will turn out the way you hoped.
- We may change or stop parts of the service. Where we can, we will warn you first.
9. Liability
[TO BE WRITTEN BY THE LAWYER — limitation of liability appropriate to the jurisdiction of [COMPANY NAME].] Until then: to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
10. Privacy
Our privacy policy, at [PRIVACY URL], explains what we store and why. Uploaded material and generated videos are stored so you can come back to them; provider requests carry only what is needed to make your video.
11. Changes to these terms
When these terms change in a way you need to know about, we bump the version at the top and ask you to accept the new text before you make anything else. Your earlier acceptances stay on record.
12. Governing law
[TO BE WRITTEN BY THE LAWYER.]
AI-generated content notice — version 2026-10-16
DRAFT — FOR THE OWNER'S LAWYER TO REPLACE, together with the terms above.
By accepting this notice you confirm you understand that:
- The videos, pictures, voices, scripts and captions this product makes are generated by AI models. No person acted, spoke or drew them unless you uploaded that material yourself.
- AI-generated material can be wrong. Facts, figures, names and quotations must be checked by you before the video is used, and you are responsible for that check.
- Generated people are not real people. A resemblance to a real person is accidental unless you supplied that person's likeness with their permission.
- Every video the service exports carries a visible "AI-generated" label and provenance information written into the file. You can move the label to another position in the frame, but you cannot remove it, and the provenance information stays in the file. Some audiences and platforms have their own labelling rules; meeting any that go further than this is your responsibility.
- The models that make this content have their own rules, and a request that breaks them is refused. A refusal is not charged.
